After having practiced law in Southern California for ten years, Laurie moved to Bozeman in 2000 and went to work outdoors as a wildland firefighter and assistant water well driller, giving him a profound appreciation for the Pacific Northwest as well as a broad knowledge of the Gallatin Valley and its neighborhoods.
